Sonshine Centre is a one-year residential and counseling program for women and children who are fleeing family violence and abuse and who want to break the cycle and move toward a future of health and dignity.
In 2004 our generous donors and supporters enabled Sonshine to purchase and begin renovations on a new residential shelter facility and in the spring of 2007 we opened the doors of the expanded Sonshine Centre.
Our new facility has 24 fully furnished suites for families and individuals, representing approximately 35% of the second-stage shelter capacity in Calgary for women and children fleeing domestic violence. Our facilities have access to public and separate schools and amenities and community activities in a quiet residential neighbourhood.
Our dedicated and highly qualified professional staff walks alongside clients on their journey to healing and wellness. We provide a range of services and programs intended to help women and children regain a sense of wholeness and control in their lives including:
· Quality, safe and low-cost housing
· Individual counseling
· Life-skills groups
· One-on-one mentoring
· Child-parent interaction therapy
· Parenting education
· Counseling and play therapy for children
· Children’s social skills groups
· An extensive volunteer program to provide support to families
· Access to community resources
· Follow-up and outreach services
The Sonshine Centre is a safe, non-judgmental living environment that accepts women of all faiths or no faith.
